VA – Beat Power

June 24, 2011

This arrived the other day as an unexpected freebie in a recent order. It is an exclusive from my record supplier over in Köln – danke schöne. Compliled by Twit One, it comprises of 31 instrumental productions from 31 artist (predominantly from the German underground Hip Hop scene). The sounds are a throw back at that golden hip hop era with a 2011 twist. Beat Power will be out  22nd July on Augenringe unter dem dritten Auge Records.  This is definitely heavy, but I am sure your tough enough to grab a copy…..

Cumbia is a type of latin music that originated in Colombia’s carribean costal area. I never knew about it until I heard this dope green slice from the South American based Quantic. To put it short, Will Quantic has got a bunch of local musicians together and recorded some golden era hip hop covers, Cumbia style. A totally off the wall vision but the results are splendid (I didn’t think I ever wanted to hear T.R.O.Y again, but I do now). This project has mass appeal if you ask me. As shown in the picture, the final product is looks lovely & comes with a serato tone on 1 side. Yes I’ll admit, I like acordeon’s !!!

I just returned from a little work related getaway this week in Luxemburg. I really like this city/country, but it’s not really somewhere you would put on your list of places to go on holidays. Unfortunately we were on a tight schedule so I didn’t have time to go diggin’ in the crates. We basically spent all our the time in workshops, at restaurants soaking up french red wine or chilling in the hotel bar downing caipi’s. As I am a conditioned father who wakes up early, I managed to hit the gym almost each day. These 2 Cut Chemist mixes were found on my iphone and were on constant rotation for the entire time when I was working out. Nuttin’ but bare classics that you know, love & ain’t heard in years!!!

Jazzy Sport’s re-edit label Black Cow are now upto there 5th release. The 1st few in the series were on the disco/boogie tip, so I didn’t pick them up. Though the last 2 (bc-004 & bc-005) are definitely up my alley. My pick of the bunch is Smiling Kungfushi. The original track name has escaped my mind but I guarantee if your a regular on here you will be into it………….
