Finally Electric Wire Hustle‘s follow up to the successful Perception 12″ (EP 001). EP 002 showcases 4 of the stronger tracks that are included on their forthcoming album Every Waking Hour, that is due out on the great BBE sometime this summer. There are appearances on this 12″ from Declaine and Georgia Ann Muldrow plus the usual neo soul goodness one has come to expect from the New Zealand posse. For fans of Marvin or Dilla………

Ke-ke-ke-eep it low, strings, laser beams, smoke, dust, speakers …………

Lynx kicks off his new imprint Detail Recordings in style with perhaps the best DnB release so far in 2010, Keep It Low, the ode to raving. Kemo has provided the spooky vocals, whilst Lynx and an unnamed producer have layed down the crisp/minimal tribal percussion, a heavy dose of maxed out bass sounds plus a sprinkle of eery effects. The flip see’s the label boss team up with his old mate Malibu Rhodes for a no brainer, steppy and experimental dancefloor destroyer they called Bangin Archs. An essential slice of wax if you like drums and bass …………

Customs took my copy, so I had to go down to the Zollamt yesterday morning to reclaim it. A Japanese only release from the DJ  that needs no introduction on this blog. As the title suggests, there is a few joints most crate diggers will know, but he still manages to educate with style and finesse. A soulful, funky and jazzy selection with bits from Sylvia Striplin, 9th Creation, Jack Bruce, Johnny Watson thru to some bossa nova from Tenorio Jr and much much more…. This is easily the best mix CD I have heard in 2010.

I bagged these a few months back, but never got round to posting anything about them. Damu The Fudgemunk is a new name for me, but apparently his productions have gained much love by the underground indie Hip Hop heads in the last decade. Think golden era Pete Rock, Diamond D or Premo sample based MPC sounds and your almost there. I just checked a few online stores and they have repressed this as the 1st run is all gone, so there is now no reason to miss out.

VA – Puzzles

June 17, 2010

Twit One has compiled this excellent 16 track MPC beat puzzle. Each track is by a different producer with the usual suspects from the MPM roster, plus a beat from his idol Kan Kick. Its mad limited with only 500 copies, has a  super nice cover shot by Robert Winter (the dude behind most of the photography for MPM) and it is simply the best slice of wax to come out of Köln in a while. No disrespect, but the last Hi Hat Club (Chop Shop) and the Suff Daddy LP weren’t of the usual high standard one comes to expect from MPM.

This is without a doubt the dopest release so far in Medicine Show series. Packed with productions from 1990-2000 by from the mighty Loop Digga. Move quick if you want the limited edition 3 piece vinyl version with the hand made silk screen cover. Madlib beats from the vaults from the era when he was doing the Lootpack, Unseen LP, stuff for the Liks and so on……. that ill shit made for the walkman, need I say more??!!
